Mittens created for a friend who lost all her fingers left with one thumb. Pattern created through the Holy Spirit’s work through my hands.
I tried to make them more open so they could put them on without help and applied the leather pieces to the palms so as to be able to grip things while wearing them.
I wrote it down as I made the mittens, hopefully, it makes sense.
I used a bulky yarn #5, 4 skeins 3.5 oz each and a #10 crochet hook
Row 1: In a magic circle do 25 HDC
Pull the circle closed to make about a 2-inch circle, leave the excess yarn from the circle. It will serve to close to the hole later.
Slip stitch together, CH 2
Row 2-5: HDC in each stitch to 26 stitches, SLST and CH 2
To make thumb hole:
Row 6-9: HDC in each stitch to 26 stitches, CH 2, turn (do not SLST)
Row 10-12: HDC in each stitch to 26 stitches, SLST and CH 2
Row 13: skip first stitch and HDC in each stitch to 25 stitches, SLST and CH 2
Row 14: HDC in each stitch to 25 stitches, SLST and CH 2
Row 15: HDC in each stitch to 25 stitches, SLST
Row 16: scallop stitch to finish
For leather pieces, I cut the pieces and then used a skip cut rotary blade to create holes to use a #4 medium yarn around the edge with a 3.5 crochet hook. I used the bulky yarn to attach.
The scarf was 2 large granny squares attached with the granny square pattern in between. Length equaling 5-6 squares 7 rows.
